Herpes Gestationis Factor (Complement-Fixing Basement Membrane Zone Antibody IgG)
Use as preferred panel to assess and monitor patient with possible pemphigoid gestationis (herpes gestationis) or other immunobullous disease with complement-fixing basement membrane zone antibodies. Testing should be clinically supported and/or correlated with concurrent Cutaneous Direct Immunofluorescence, Biopsy (0092572).
Pemphigoid gestationis is a rare disease of pregnancy; consider other types of immunobullous disease testing concurrently (ie, Epithelial Basement Membrane Zone Antibody IgA , Collagen Type VII Antibody IgG by ELISA , and/or Pemphigus Antibody Panel - Epithelial Cell Surface Antibodies and Desmoglein 1 and Desmoglein 3 Antibodies, IgG ).
Semi-Quantitative Complement Fixation/Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA)/Semi-Quantitative Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay
New York DOH Approval Status
Plain red or serum separator tube (SST).
Transfer 2 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 1 mL)
Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.
Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: Indefinitely
Performed by non-ARUP Laboratory
The methodology is indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) of serum on human split skin substrate for detection of complement-fixing (herpes gestationis factor) and non-complement-fixing IgG basement membrane zone antibodies. For specimens less than 1 mL, call the Immunodermatology Laboratory at (866) 266-5699.
