Clinical Information for Immunodermatology (Serum Testing)

Ordering Recommendation

Use as the preferred panel to assess and monitor pemphigoid gestationis (herpes gestationis) or other immunobullous disease with complement-fixing basement membrane zone antibodies. Testing should be correlated with concurrent Direct Immunofluorescence, Tissue Biopsy (Cutaneous, Mucosal, Epithelial) (0092572). 

Consider other types of immunobullous disease serum testing concurrently such as Basement Membrane Zone (Epithelial) Antibodies, IgA by IIF (0092057), Collagen Type VII Antibody, IgG by ELISA (2010905), and/or Pemphigus Antibody Panel, IgG (0090650). Alternatively, order concurrently with Immunobullous Disease Antibody Panel (3001409) for broad, comprehensive immunobullous disease testing.

Transfer 2 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 1 mL)

The methodology is indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) with added fresh human complement on human split skin substrate for detection of complement-fixing (herpes gestationis factor) and noncomplement-fixing IgG basement membrane zone antibodies together with IgG BP180 antibody level determination by ELISA in serum. For specimens less than 0.5 mL, call the Immunodermatology Laboratory at (866) 266-5699.
