Specimen Required
Patient Preparation
Patient must fast overnight for 12-14 hours. Patient must not consume any alcohol for 24 hours prior to collection. 
Plasma: Green (sodium or lithium heparin) or Lavender (EDTA).
Serum: Plain Red or Serum Separator Tube (SST). 
Specimen Preparation
Separate from cells ASAP or within 45 minutes of draw. Transfer 0.5 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.15 mL) Freeze immediately. 
Storage/Transport Temperature
Unacceptable Conditions
Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, lipemic, or non-fasting specimens. 
Patient age is required on the test request form. Include information regarding treatment, family history, and tentative diagnosis. 
Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 3 months

Interpretive Data
This test does not screen for disorders of peroxisomal biogenesis/function.
