Ordering Recommendation

Adjunct test for the diagnosis of invasive mucormycosis caused by the most common Mucorales genera. Does not replace culture and histopathology.

Specimen Required

Patient Preparation
Collect

Serum Separator Tube (SST), bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), bronchial wash, sputum, body fluid, Fresh tissue or paraffin-embedded tissue.

Specimen Preparation

Transfer 2 mL serum, body fluid, or respiratory specimen to a sterile container. (Min: 1.2 mL).
Fresh Tissue: Transfer to a sterile container and freeze immediately.
Paraffin-Embedded Tissue: Transport in a Tissue Transport Kit (ARUP supply #47808), available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect or contact ARUP Client Services at (800)522-2787.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Body Fluid, Respiratory, or Fresh Tissue: Frozen.
Paraffin-Embedded Tissue: Room temperature.

Unacceptable Conditions

Tissues in optimal cutting temperature compound.
