Use to detect the presence or absence of the SRY gene.

Specimen Required
Green (sodium heparin) tube.
Transport 5 mL whole blood (Min: 2 mL).
Preferred transport temp: Room temperature.
Paraffin-embedded specimens. Clotted specimens.
Pertinent clinical diagnosis is required with test order. Testing will not be performed until diagnosis is provided; absence of this information will delay turnaround time.
Counseling and informed consent are recommended for genetic testing. Consent forms are linked above.
New York Clients: informed consent is required with submission.

Note
This test does not detect specific chromosome abnormalities or low-level mosaicism. Chromosome analysis is recommended for characterization of structural rearrangements, if needed.
It is recommended that all FISH studies be done in conjunction with routine cytogenetic analysis. (Refer to appropriate chromosome analysis test for order instructions).
Time required for culture as well as testing can vary.
A processing fee will be charged if this procedure is canceled at the client's request, after the test has been set up, or if the specimen integrity is inadequate to allow culture growth. The fee will vary based on specimen type.
This test must be ordered using Cytogenetic test request form #43097 or through your ARUP interface.
