Ordering Recommendation

Use to culture Candida auris from a skin specimen. If C. auris is suspected in a specimen other than skin, refer to Fungal Culture (0060149).

Molecular diagnostics are recommended to screen for C. auris colonization of the skin; refer to Candida auris by PCR (3006370).

Culture-based tests are recommended to obtain an isolate for public health and/or susceptibility testing when indicated.

Patient Preparation
Collect

Swab of patient's skin using an Eswab collection and transport system.

Specimen Preparation

Transfer Eswab to a transport tube containing 1 mL liquid Amies medium. Place specimen in an individually sealed bag.

Specimen types other than skin swabs.
Environmental swabs.

Specimen source required. Please provide Candida auris PCR results if available.
