Specimen Required

Patient Preparation
Collect

24-hour or timed urine collections with no preservatives. Refrigerate during collection. Also acceptable: Random urine.

Specimen Preparation

Urine pH must be adjusted to greater than 7.0. Mix timed urine collection well. Transfer 4 mL urine to an ARUP standard transport tube.(Min: 0.5 mL) Record total volume, collection time interval, and pH on transport tube or aliquot tube and test request form.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions

Specimens with pH 7.0 or less. Urine collected with acid
