Pericardial Fluid

Specimen Preparation

Centrifuge specimen at room temperature. Transfer 0.5 mL fluid (supernatant) to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube and freeze. (Min: 0.2 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Frozen. Specimen must remain frozen until received in lab.

Unacceptable Conditions

Whole blood or Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) specimens. Turbid specimens.

Indicate source on requisition.

Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 30 days
