Ordering Recommendation

Assess for methyl bromide exposure. Not intended for monitoring bromide therapy.

This test is New York state approved.

Specimen Required

Patient Preparation

Avoid exposure to gadolinium or iodine based contrast media for 96 hours prior to specimen collection. Do not use disinfectants containing iodine, such as Betadine, during draw (prior to draw).

Collect

Royal Blue (K2 EDTA), Royal Blue (Na2 EDTA), or Royal Blue (No Additive).

Specimen Preparation

Separate from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 2 mL serum or plasma to an Acid Washed Transfer Vial (ARUP supply #54350) available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. (Min: 0.7 mL)
Test is not performed at ARUP; separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerated. Also acceptable: Room temperature or frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions

Separator tubes.
