Fasting specimen preferred.
Serum Separator Tube (SST) or Plasma Separator Tube (PST). Also acceptable: Green (Sodium or Lithium Heparin), Lavender (EDTA), or Pink (K2EDTA).
Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transport 1 mL serum or plasma in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)
Frozen.
Grossly hemolyzed specimens.
After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: 1 month

Interpretive Data
The reference interval for fasting c-peptide is 0.8-3.5 ng/mL. To convert to nmol/L, multiply ng/mL by 0.33.
