Serum Separator Tube (SST).

Specimen Preparation

Separate cells within 2 hours of collection. Transport 1 mL serum in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)

Plasma. Grossly hemolyzed specimens.

Interpretive Data

This test was performed using the Abbott Total PSA immunoassay. Results obtained with different test methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably. The Abbott Total PSA assay is approved as  an adjunctive test to aid in the management of prostate cancer patients, and as an aid in the detection of prostate cancer when used in conjunction with digital rectal exam in men 50 years or older. Prostatic biopsy is required for diagnosis of cancer.
