Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) with Reflex to RPR Titer or T. pallidum Antibody by Particle Agglutination
Ordering Recommendation
Order to confirm a reactive treponemal screening test (eg, CIA, EIA) when using the reverse testing algorithm to screen for syphilis.
Methodology
Semi-Quantitative Particle Agglutination
Performed
Sun-Sat
Reported
1-4 days
New York DOH Approval Status
Specimen Required
Serum separator tube (SST).
Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP standard transport tube. (Min: 0.5 mL). Avoid freezing if possible.
Refrigerated.
Plasma, CSF, or other body fluids.
After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)
