Patient Preparation

Collect specimens in leak-proof container.

Collect

Cerebrospinal Fluid.

Specimen Preparation

Centrifuge specimen at room temperature. Transfer 0.3 mL fluid to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube and freeze. (Min: 0.1 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Frozen. Specimen must remain frozen until received in lab.

Unacceptable Conditions

Whole blood. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) specimens. Turbid specimens.

Ambient: 2 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month
