Calculus specimen.
Specimen Preparation
Air dry calculi and transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Larger calculi specimens may be transported in a clean, empty urine cup (150 mL) or similar container.
Storage/Transport Temperature
Room temperature.
Unacceptable Conditions
Specimens wrapped in tape or embedded in wax will delay or prevent analysis and should not be submitted.
Remarks
Calculi specimens that are transported in liquid and received wet or bloody will be dried for 48-72 hours, which will cause a delay in processing.

Calculi are the products of physiological processes that yield crystalline compounds in a matrix of biological compounds and blood. Matrix components are not reported. The clinically significant crystalline components identified in calculi specimens are reported. Gross description may not be consistent with the composition determined by FTIR analysis.
