Testosterone, Bioavailable and Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (Includes Total Testosterone), Adult Male
Acceptable test for the evaluation of suspected hypogonadism in men. Not recommended for use in women and children.
Quantitative Electrochemiluminescent Immunoassay
The concentrations of free and bioavailable testosterone are derived from mathematical expressions based on constants for the binding of testosterone to albumin and/or sex hormone binding globulin.

Bioavailable testosterone concentration is calculated using total testosterone (measured by immunoassay) and the binding constant of testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and/or albumin. Testosterone immunoassys are both imprecise and inaccurate at low testosterone concentrations, usch as those found in children and cisgender females. For these individuals testing by mass spectrometry is reccomended; refer to Testosteron, Bioavaialble and Total, includes Sex-Hormone Binding Globulin (Adult Females, Children or Individual on Testosterone Supressing Hormone Therapy) (ARUP test code 0081057).
For individuals of testosterone hormone therapy refer to cisgender male reference intervals. No reference intervals have been establised for males youger then 14 years or for cisgender females. For a complete set of all established reference interals, refer to ltd.aruplab.com/Tests/Pub/0070102.
The concentration of Free Testosterone is derived from a mathematical expression based on the constant for the binding of testosterone to Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG).
Plese refer to individual components for stability fot this test. This test is not reccommended for females or children. For testsing on females or children refer to Testoterone, Bioavailable and Toal, includes Sex Hormone Binding Globuln (adult Females, Children, or Individulas on Tetosterone Supressing Hormone Therapy) Testosterone, Bioavaliable & Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (includes Total Testosterone), Females or Children (0081057).
