Patient Preparation
Collect

CSF AND serum separator tube.  Serum specimen should be drawn within 48 hours of CSF collection.

Specimen Preparation

Centrifuge and separate CSF to remove cellular material. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL CSF AND 1 mL serum to individual ARUP Standard Transport Tubes. (Min: 0.4 mL CSF AND 0.4 mL serum)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions

Grossly bloody or hemolyzed specimens.
