Aid in the detection of insulinoma. May aid in distinguishing type 1 from type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) in ambiguous cases. Do not use to diagnose DM.

Fasting specimen preferred.

Collect

Serum Separator Tube (SST)

Specimen Preparation

Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transport 1 mL serum in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions

Grossly hemolyzed specimens.
