Collect
Serum separator tube.  
Specimen Preparation
Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 0.5 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.15 mL)  
Storage/Transport Temperature
Refrigerated.  
Unacceptable Conditions
Urine or plasma. Contaminated, heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, icteric, or severely lipemic specimens.

After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles)  
Reference Interval
30 IU/mL or less: Negative
31 IU/mL or greater: Positive
Interpretive Data
The high-avidity double-stranded DNA (HA dsDNA) IgG antibody is more specific, although less sensitive, for the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and is more often associated with renal involvement (lupus nephritis) than the low-affinity anti-dsDNA (LA dsDNA) IgG antibody.
