Ordering Recommendation
Standard fasting lipid panel (0020421) is preferred for most individuals. Not recommended for cardiovascular disease risk assessment in most individuals.

Patient Preparation
12 hour fasting is preferred, but not required.  
Clot Activator Tube (ARUP supply #40484). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect ™ or by contacting ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. Also acceptable: Plain red.  
Specimen Preparation
Gently invert tube to mix contents; allow to clot at room temperature for 30 minutes. Separate serum from cells within 8 hours. Transfer 4 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 2 mL)  
Storage/Transport Temperature
Unacceptable Conditions
Plasma. Specimens more than 6 days old. Separator tubes.  
Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 6 days; Frozen: Unacceptable

Refer to report.

Specimen analysis performed at ARUP Laboratories. NMR LDL Particle Number and LDL Cholesterol calculation are interpreted by ARUP. All other NMR test components are interpreted by LipoScience, Inc., Raleigh, NC. Analysis of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides are performed using chemical methods.
