Specimen Required

Patient Preparation

Fast 8-12 hours prior to collection.

Collect

Lavender or pink (K2EDTA or K3EDTA).

Specimen Preparation

Mix well. Separate from cells within 1 hour of collection. Transfer 2 mL plasma to an ARUP standard transport tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Frozen. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Unacceptable Conditions

Hemolyzed, lipemic, icteric or clotted specimens.

Stability

After separation from cells: Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 3 days; Frozen: 1 month
