Patient Preparation
 
Collect
Plain red or serum separator tube. Also acceptable: Lavender (EDTA) or pink (K2EDTA). 
Specimen Preparation
Centrifuge specimen. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.6 mL) Label plainly as a.m. or p.m. collection. 
Storage/Transport Temperature
Frozen. 
Unacceptable Conditions
Specimens collected in plasma separator tubes containing heparin. Grossly hemolyzed or heparinized specimens.
