Collect

Plain red. Also acceptable: Green (sodium heparin).

Specimen Preparation

Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP standard transport tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions

Separator tubes or gels, lavender (EDTA), or gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate). Hemolyzed specimens.

After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 6 months; Frozen: 6 months
