Specimen Required
Patient Preparation
Timing of specimen collection: Pre-dose (trough) draw - At steady state concentration.  
Collect
Plain red. Also acceptable: Lavender (K2 or K3EDTA) or pink (K2EDTA).  
Specimen Preparation
Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)  
Storage/Transport Temperature
Frozen.  
Unacceptable Conditions
Whole blood. Gel separator tubes, light blue (citrate), or yellow (SPS or ACD solution).

Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 24 hours; Frozen: 5 days

Components Therapeutic Range
Librium 0.5-​3.0 µg/mL -​ Dose (Adult): 5-​100 mg
Toxic: Greater than 5.0 µg/mL
Nordiazepam 0.1-​1.5 µg/mL -​ Based on normal dosages.
Toxic: Greater than 2.5 µg/mL
Interpretive Data
Adverse effects may include drowsiness, ataxia, nausea and constipation.
