Patient Preparation
  
Collect
Lavender (EDTA) or pink (K2EDTA). Also acceptable: Green (sodium or lithium heparin) plain red or serum separator tube.  
Specimen Preparation
Allow serum specimen to clot fully at room temperature. Transfer 2 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)  
Storage/Transport Temperature
Frozen. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.  
Unacceptable Conditions
Body Fluid (refer to Parathyroid Hormone, FNA, ARUP test code 2001491); Urine. Rapid Serum Tubes (RST).  
Remarks
If requesting Ionized Calcium with PTH, submit two separate specimens. Refer to Calcium, Ionized, Serum (ARUP test code 0020135) for requirements.  
Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: 6 months

Note
This test is appropriate for patients who have already had recent testing for calcium values and would like results graphed. Previous calcium values must be submitted with the test order; otherwise, a generic result will be provided. If calcium values are not available and a graphed result is desired, do NOT collect in EDTA and order Parathyroid Hormone, Intact with Calcium (ARUP test code 0070172). If requesting Ionized Calcium with PTH, submit two (2) separate specimens. Refer to Calcium, Ionized, Serum (ARUP test code 0020135) for requirements.
