Patient Preparation

To avoid false negative results, no antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, or a bismuth preparation should be administered to patient for 14 days prior to specimen collection.

Collect

Stool.

Specimen Preparation

Transfer 4 g stool to an unpreserved stool transport vial (ARUP supply #40910). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. (Min: 1 g)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions

Gastric specimens, swabs or tissue. Specimens in media or preservatives.
