Specimen Required
Patient Preparation

Collect
Serum separator tube (acute) AND serum separator tube (convalescent). Also acceptable: Lavender (EDTA) or green (sodium or lithium heparin).
Specimen Preparation
Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 0.5 mL serum or plasma (acute) AND 0.5 mL serum or plasma (convalescent) to individual ARUP Standard Transport Tubes. (Min: 0.3 mL each) If acute specimen was previously tested by ARUP, convalescent specimen must be submitted within 30 days if seroconversion comparison testing is desired. Mark specimens plainly as "acute" or "convalescent" with appropriate draw dates.
Storage/Transport Temperature
Refrigerated..
Unacceptable Conditions
Contaminated, heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, icteric, or severely lipemic specimens.
Remarks
Testing will not be performed unless both acute and convalescent specimens are available.
Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 5 days; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)
Reference Interval
Test Number Components Reference Interval
Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgG Acute 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgG antibody.
0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgG antibody to Parvovirus B19 detected which may indicate a current or past infection.
Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgG Convalescent 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgG antibody.
0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgG antibody to Parvovirus B19 detected which may indicate a current or past infection.
Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgM Acute 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgM antibody.
0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgM antibody to Parvovirus B19 detected which may indicate a current or recent infection. However, low levels of IgM antibodies may occasionally persist for more than 12 months post-infection.
Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgM Convalescent 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgM antibody.
