Specimen Required
Patient Preparation
Patient should be fasting for 12 hours prior to collection.  
Lavender (EDTA), pink (K2EDTA), plain red, or serum separator tube.  
Specimen Preparation
Separate from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.2 mL)  
Storage/Transport Temperature
Unacceptable Conditions
Heparinized plasma. Specimens from patients receiving heparin.  
Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 6 months

Interpretive Data
LDL Type A: Indicative of Type A. Type A is characterized by mainly large buoyant LDL.
LDL Not Type A: Not indicative of Type A. Not type A is characterized by mainly small dense LDL. Small dense LDL is associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease.
