Patient Preparation
 
Collect
Green (sodium or lithium heparin), plasma separator tube, or serum separator tube.  
Specimen Preparation
Allow serum tube to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 30 minutes of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.3 mL)  
Storage/Transport Temperature
Refrigerated.  
Unacceptable Conditions
Specimens collected in EDTA, citrate, or oxalate.

After separation from cells: Ambient: Calcium and CO2: 4 hours, All others: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 6 months
