Specimen Required

Patient Preparation

Tourniquet application should be minimal.

Collect

Plasma separator tube or serum separator tube.

Specimen Preparation

Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.2 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions

Body Fluid (refer to Total Protein, Body Fluid, ARUP test code 0020502). Urine (refer to Total Protein, Urine, ARUP test code 0020479).

Stability

After separation from cells: Ambient: 6 days; Refrigerated: 1 month; Frozen: 2 months
