Interpretive Data
The Abbott Architect Total PSA assay is a Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay (CMIA) for the quantitative determination of total PSA (both free PSA and PSA complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin) in human serum. Results with different test methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably. This assay has been approved for use as an aid in the detection of prostate cancer when used in conjunction with a digital rectal exam in men 50 years of age and in the prognosis and management of prostate cancer patients. Elevated concentrations can only suggest the presence of prostate cancer until a biopsy is performed. Elevated concentration can be also found in benign prostatic hyperplasia or inflammatory conditions of the prostate. Total PSA is generally not elevated in healthy men or in men with non-prostate carcinoma.

Note
This test is only available to patients of the Huntsman Cancer Hospital and Clinics.
