Specimen Preparation

Transport tick in 70 percent ethanol in a sterile container. (Min: 1 tick)
Test is not performed at ARUP; separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Room temperature. Also acceptable: Refrigerated

Unacceptable Conditions

Dry specimens. Preservative other than 70 percent ethanol.

If tick identification result is positive for Ixodes scapularis (Deer Tick), I. pacificus (Western Black-legged Tick), I. angustus, or an Ixodes species with head and mouth parts missing (probably I. pacificus OR scapularis), then reflex testing will be added. Additional charges apply.
