Detect extraintestinal parasites from other body fluids. To rule out Naegleria and other free living amoeba, consider ordering Acanthamoeba and Naegleria Culture (0060245) or Amoeba Calcofluor Stain (0060250). For CSF specimens, consider Acanthamoeba and Naegleria Culture and Stain, CSF (3000878).

Urine: If S. haematobium is suspected, collect at midday or 24-hour collection in a container without preservative. Peak egg excretion occurs between noon and 3 p.m.

Specimen Preparation
Transfer 4 mL body fluid, CSF, or urine to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube (ARUP Supply #46307). (Min: 1 mL) 
Storage/Transport Temperature
Body Fluid or Urine: Refrigerated.
CSF: Room temperature.
